Created by Stephen Hillenberg in 1993 Spongebob took many years of development before audiences finally in 1999 we got to see the world of Bikini Bottom as we know it. Hillenberg was a cartoonist and a marine biologist and the two combined very well. 2009 is the Year of the Sponge celebrating Spongebob's 10th Anniversary.
